2013: Chapter 3 - Flooded With Memories

After a delightful family breakfast we trekked up to the cabin. The sound of our tires thumping over the bridge jolted the nearly month old memories from my head. Feeling safe, yet unsafe. Stranded, yet accompanied. Afraid, yet brave.

The flood forced us to realize the importance of being prepared. Hearing other neighbors flood stories was reassuring. We learned that there really is safety in numbers and that hard times pull people together.

As we focused on preparedness this trip, we re-lit the furnace pilot light and mapped the house's electrical pathways. It feels good to be more aware of the house's inner workings. A thorough cleaning and organization further increased my feelings of safety.

The beautiful warm weather also melted the remnants of snow from a storm a week or so ago. Takotah, the next door dog, also helped the snow disappear (see video). I love watching Takotah guard his boys as they play.

Until next time...stay prepared.
