Our small neighborhood is wonderful. This weekend we enjoyed "welcome" cookies from Darryl and LeAnn. The next day we were invited into their home located right on Oak Creek. Its two decks take full advantage of the views. We spent an hour with them on the top deck while a red-headed woodpecker and many finches joined us. They've lived in the home 16 years and are in the process of selling it to move back to Phoenix to enjoy their grandchildren.
They know the history of the area like the back of their hand. In two weeks, LeAnn is going to introduce us to Lois. She is 88 years old and a granddaughter of the Purtymans (one of the original families in the area). I am really excited about that. Apparently Lois has a large collection of Native American arrowheads that her family has collected over the years. Maybe she'll show them to me...
We were also informed about the "secret" area where nudists like to swim. Then another neighbor discovered a new spring of water running through his property. He plans to collect it and use it to irrigate his small orchard. Imagine - free pristine water.
We love this place!
Oh yeah, this weekend we also installed the sub floor in the master bedroom, caulked its entire perimeter, and painted two coats of Linen White. Next time we will lay the laminate flooring.
My new iPhone 4S (Verizon) works very well in the canyon. That is good news because my old one had no service. Now we are covered in case of any emergency.
Until next time...

2012: Chapter 2 - Bald Eagle Badge
We earned our bald eagle badge! Along highway 89A a HUGE bald eagle flapped its wings about 20 feet in front of our car. It was the closest we have ever been to one in flight. What a thrill!
The three day weekend in Oak Creek Canyon was absolutely beautiful. We removed old, yucky, dusty carpeting and padding (sneeze, sneeze) from the master bedroom and applied 2 coats of Kilz primer.
Each trip to the Canyon connects me more deeply to it. I long to spend great amounts of time there.
As the trusty trailer hauled several weeks worth of demolition back home without a hitch (no pun intended), I simply reflected on that beautiful eagle.
