Chapter 9 - Turning The Corner

This weekend we turned a corner. For the first time in nearly two months our cottage felt like a real home. We cooked all of our own meals thanks to the propane that was turned on a while back. That propane also gave us warm water to thoroughly wash our dishes as well as ourselves. The chocolate chip cookies I baked and shared our neighbors really got conversations going. Sedona residents are great.

The new queen size bed that rode up with us in the trailer was put to good use! We slept so soundly on it. Sleeping in the canyon starts around 7:00 pm because it is so dark then.  My melatonin levels must be sky high; I couldn't stay awake if I wanted to. We seem to sleep better except for noises that are according to a neighbor, "probably skunks or raccoons." She even reported that someone once saw a mountain lion in the area.

The living room feels very cozy with the second coat of Linen White paint completely obliterating the old green paint. The futon is now a temporary couch. Next big project in there is the flooring.

The trailer happily hauled back a lot of junk including a massive amount of ivy we removed from the front deck. It was a spider haven. During its removal the praying mantis I saw a few weeks ago (see Chapter 7) appeared seeming rather confused. Bill got it onto a dustpan and I relocated it to a patch of ivy across from us. I hope it does well. Later we spotted a baby praying mantis on the deck before we left. I love the creatures we see all the time - dragonflies, bats, butterflies, birds, moths, ants, hornets, spiders, etc.

It was good to be back in Sedona, Oak Creek is so soothing. The trees are beginning to change. Yellow is very prevalent while reds and oranges are just starting to be seen. Hurry up next weekend!
